Add visual interest to your landscape, as they certainly add that tropical look with their large green crowns, narrow leaves and golden skinned fruit. They look great indoors or in a clay (more porous) container on your patio and can be planted outdoors in warmer parts of New Zealand. They can take 18-28 months to produce fruit, but the wait is worth it as their yellow flesh is much juicier and sweeter than anything you will buy in the shops. Heavy feeders, provide a good NPK fertiliser, especially when young and use a compost rich in organic matter and nutrients. A sandy/loamy soil is best, with good drainage, but allow plenty of room to grow as they can easily reach 6 feet high and 6 feet wide!

As the fruit develops, they will need staking. Reasonable exposure to sun and protection from frosts and cold snaps are desirable for best results.

Black nursery pot. Cover pot not included.
