Chamaedorea hooperiana

Said to be one of the most beautiful of its kind, this Mexican palm grows to around 3m and resembles bamboo. It has long slender pinnate green leaves topped by a spreading crown. Quite vigorous, robust and resistant to low humidity, mites and even light frosts due to its thick, leathery leaves. They like filtered light when young, partial shade when mature and a moist, well-draining soil. They look great indoors or on a terrace, but are best outdoors in warmer areas of NZ.
